How To: Curate Your Summer Body Care Routine
Summer is officially here, which means warmer temperatures, longer days and more time outside in the sun. As the seasons change, we should also make small lifestyle adjustments to best live in sync with the natural world around us. This includes considering our skin and body care routines. The skin is our largest organ and, being so external, is very susceptible to the atmosphere and environment. In summer, there's an increased amount of humidity in the air. We're often spending more time outdoors, and we're prone to producing more sebum (or oil) than in the cooler months. This all effects the skin and how we should best be treating it. Below, find our advice on how to curate your body care routine when the mercury rises.
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE
For healthy and dewy summer skin, ensure your daily body care routine includes a moisturiser. While summer generally means more sweat and more oil, external factors like sun exposure, humidity, chlorine when swimming in pools and air conditioning can all sap the skin of its water content. Quench thirsty skin with an antioxidant-rich moisturiser, like our BODY MOISTURISER. Squalane and niacinamide elevate moisture levels and provide vital nutrients to support THE SKIN'S BARRIER FUNCTION. An antioxidant-rich blend of honeysuckle extract, cloudberry oil, soybean oil and shea butter soothes and softens for a radiant glow especially after SHAVING. You might also like to think about incorporating hydrating and cooling foods into your diet to nourish the skin from within, such as cucumber, celery, lettuce, grapefruit and watermelon.
EXFOLIATE REGULARLY
An increase in sweat and oil production can trap dirt and debris in the pores. It's important to EXFOLIATE OFTEN in summer to delicately clear out the pores. This will help to reduce the chance of BODY ACNE, which tends to crop up more frequently in summer. Exfoliation also encourages skin cell turnover. The cells naturally rejuvenate around every 28 days, which slows down as we age. Using an exfoliator expedites this process, shedding dead layers to reveal soft and glowing skin beneath. Our BODY POLISH is formulated with a considered blend of physical and chemical exfoliators. Salicylic acid and charcoal powder deeply penetrate pores and remove impurities. Finely milled volcanic pumice polishes, revitalises and stimulates circulation.
TAN (THE SAFE WAY)
The only safe tan is a sunless tan! Give off the impression of post-holiday illumination by fake tanning from the comfort of your own home. We know that sun exposure and UV radiation is the predominant preventable cause of premature ageing. Instead, reach for a well-formulated tanning product to give you glowing skin. USE A PH-BALANCED SHAVE CREAM
Seeing as the skin is prone to becoming a bit more oily over summer, it's wise to focus on using PH-BALANCED products in your BODY CARE ROUTINE. This will help to balance your skin's microbiome, regulating oil production and reducing the chance of skin irritation and inflammation. If you do choose to shave areas of your body this summer, our SHAVE CREAM is the perfect accoutrement. The luxurious, pH-balanced antioxidant formulation contains shea butter to soften the hair follicle and skin, while aloe vera and avocado oil soothe and calm. Supercharged with multivitamins, a nourishing blend of plant-based bioactive oils help to hydrate and illuminate. Pair it with our iconic RAZOR for your best shave yet.
DRY BODY BRUSH
With in a lineage in Ayurvedic medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, DRY BODY BRUSHING stimulates the body's lymphatic drainage system. This helps to reduce puffiness by removing excess fluid from the skin, removing toxins in the process. It is also a fantastic form of physical exfoliation, as it manually removes dead skin cells from the outermost layer of the skin. Dry body brushing boosts circulation, which contributes to glowing summer skin by allowing the delivery of more oxygen and nutrients to skin cells.
ALWAYS WEAR SPF
In summer we tend to spend more time outdoors, dipping in the ocean and taking our workouts out of the gym and into nature. This means more sun exposure, which along with the aforementioned premature ageing can also cause sunburn and even skin cancer. The sun in Australia is extra strong and while we have an international reputation for living a healthy outdoorsy life, it's vital that we back that up and protect the skin on the face and body with sunscreen every day. We recommend finding a texture that you love, whether it's a lotion, gel or spray, and applying it multiple times a day – especially following swimming or sweating. Ensure the SPF is a broad-spectrum (offering protection from both UVA and UVB rays).
