5 Winter Body Care Tips You Shouldn’t Skip

There’s an arctic chill in the air, signalling that it’s very much winter. As the natural world around us changes in sync with the seasons, so should our approach to body care. Below, find five tips to nourish your skin the right way this winter.

1. HYDRATE THE SKIN

As the temperature drops, so does the skin's moisture levels. Chilly weather, exposure to indoor heating, dry wind and long hot showers can strip the skin of its natural oils and leave it dry and irritated. Replenish your skin’s BARRIER FUNCTION by boosting hydration with a cocooning body moisturiser. Liberally apply our BODY MOISTURISER while skin is still slightly damp after stepping out of the shower or bath. This will help to increase the skin’s water content and protect it from the harsh winter elements. Ingredients like shea butter, SQUALANE and PLANT-BASED OILS leave skin soft and glowing.

2. EXFOLIATE OFTEN

Our skin cell’s naturally renew every 28 days, which slows down as we age. In winter we’re prone to an additional buildup of dead skin cells. These deposits can leave the skin feeling rough and texturised, and prevent ACTIVE INGREDIENTS from fully penetrating the dermis. Gentle EXFOLIATION a few times a week speeds up cell turnover, which helps to slough away dead skin and allows your BODY MOISTURISER to absorb deeply. Combining the best of both PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL exfoliators, our BODY POLISH delicately clears out the pores and effectively resurfaces the skin. Bonus: it’s the perfect pre-shave treatment to avoid INGROWN HAIRS

3. PROTECT WHILE SHAVING

Shaving itself is a form of physical exfoliation; not only is your razor removing unwanted hair, it’s also removing the topmost layer of your skin. It’s extra important to use a hydrating SHAVE CREAM in winter. Made in Australia from natural ingredients, ours is a low-foam nourishing formulation that creates a cushion between your RAZOR and your skin. It actually gives back to the skin, infusing it with skin-repairing oils and vitamin-rich botanicals. Avoid DRY SHAVING, as this is a fast track to irritation especially in colder weather.

4. SOOTHE, STEAM, SOFTEN

The temptation to turn the water temperature up to ‘as hot as possible’ in winter is real. But whether you’re having a SHOWER OR A BATH, it’s always best to opt for lukewarm over burning hot. This is because prolonged exposure to hot water can interfere with the SKIN’S PH LEVELS, robbing it of natural oils and moisture. Try to keep hot showers or baths to a minimum and switch to a mild body cleanser that won’t unnecessarily dry you out.

5. CARE FOR THE WHOLE BODY

We’re big believers that body care is just as important as skincare. For too long we’ve ignored what goes on below the neck, but it’s even more essential in winter to turn our attention to those often-overlooked areas. Elbows, knees and UNDERARMS often get the roughest end of the deal, yet these areas are vulnerable to dryness and could really benefit from a little extra exfoliation and hydration. Massage BODY POLISH onto rough patches to help boost circulation and even out texture. Lather in BODY MOISTURISER and you might even like to add an OCCLUSIVE oil or balm on top as an additional layer of defence against dryness.
