Why Active Ingredients Belong In Your Body Care Routine

Why Active Ingredients Belong In Your Body Care Routine

If you’re a beauty-lover like us, chances are you spend a lot of time and resources curating your skincare routine. Unfortunately, this means the rest of the body can go unnoticed. If it’s lucky, a particularly rough elbow or knee might get a slather of salve every now and then. But our limbs are just as deserving of daily attention.

In the past, perhaps the biggest consideration when choosing body care products was the packaging or scent. Now, the active ingredients we know and love using in our face care products have made their way into our shower caddy, providing a results-driven approach set to change the way we think about body care.

WHAT ARE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS?

Active ingredients are ingredients that target specific concerns. In other words, they don’t just feel good on the skin, they also improve it.

WHAT KIND OF SKIN CONCERNS CAN ACTIVE INGREDIENTS TREAT?

Whether you’re looking to brighten, tighten, lift or smoothe, active ingredients can treat almost every skin concern.

WHY USE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS IN BODY CARE PRODUCTS?

Just like the skin on the face, the body is subject to the signs of ageing such as wrinkles, loss of firmness and uneven texture. Acne isn’t just limited to the jawline and T-zone. It might also appear on the body, commonly on the chest or back. Due to exposure to the elements, such as sun, hot water and indoor heating, the skin on the body is prone to dryness and dehydration. In addition, the body is susceptible to its own unique set of issues that might not concern the face so much, such as ingrown hairs.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVE INGREDIENTS SHOULD YOU USE TO PREVENT AND TREAT INGROWN HAIRS?

Look for a body care product formulated with a gentle chemical exfoliant. Our BODY POLISH is the perfect treatment to prep the skin before shaving. It contains the active ingredient salicylic acid, which prevents ingrown hairs by deeply clearing the pores and creating a smooth canvas for shaving. Salicylic acid also treats ingrown hairs by delicately dissolving the dead skin that has trapped the hair in the follicle.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVE INGREDIENTS SHOULD YOU USE TO HYDRATE THE BODY?

A specific type of Vitamin B3, niacinamide works in synergy with properties found naturally in the skin to help prevent moisture loss and dehydration. It’s also a water-soluble active ingredient, meaning it is easily absorbed by the skin to deeply hydrate and nourish. It works particularly well when it appears alongside plant oils. Find niacinamide in our BODY MOISTURISER with sunflower seed oil, macadamia oil, cloudberry oil and soybean oil, which together leaves the skin soft and dewy.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVE INGREDIENTS SHOULD YOU USE TO TREAT SKIN AGEING ON THE BODY?

Retinal (not to be confused with retinol) is the most powerful form of Vitamin A available without a prescription. It effectively speeds up skin cell turnover, and does not need to be used in high concentrations to be effective. This potent active ingredient has been shown to address the signs of ageing, helping to smooth lines and wrinkles, enhance elasticity, soften uneven texture and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and sun spots. It's in our pH-balanced BODY MOISTURISER.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO INCORPORATE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS INTO YOUR BODY CARE ROUTINE?

The skin on the body is generally thicker and more resilient than the skin on the face, but if you’re using high strength active ingredients on the body it’s best to incorporate them into your routine gradually to build tolerance. While our BODY POLISH and BODY MOISTURISER do contain expertly selected active ingredients, we’ve formulated these products to include a host of hydrating and nourishing ingredients too, making them gentle enough for regular use. We recommend using the BODY POLISH 2-3 times per week, and the BODY MOISTURISER on damp skin after each time you shower or bathe.
