Bec’s Top 5 Hacks For A Deep Restorative Sleep

We all know how important it is to get a deep restorative sleep and how a lack of can impact so many facets of our lives, from our skin to our social interactions. Our founder BEC HARDING shares how she winds down before bed. Read on for her ultimate PM ritual after the sun sets.

1. KEEP IT COOL

It used to be a constant battle in our bedroom for aircon on vs. aircon off at night whilst we sleep because between my partner and I our body temperatures are always changing. Two years ago we started using the EIGHT SLEEP and there hasn’t been a battle since. This high-tech mattress topper regulates temperature and tracks your sleep. Keeping the body cool whilst in bed improves sleep quality by allowing you to spend more time in deep or REM sleep. Alternatively, I like to keep the bedroom cool throughout the night to get a similar effect.

2. SCENT THE AIR

I love essential oils and a diffuser in my bedroom to scent the air with lavender before bed. Whether it's a placebo effect or not, the scent evokes a feeling of calm and relaxation for me and I love the ritual of popping a few drops into my diffuser as I turn down the bed. I also love using a pillow spray right before I jump into bed. The THIS WORKS DEEP SLEEP PILLOW SPRAY is formulated with 100% natural essential oils of lavender, vetiver and wild chamomile.

3. SLEEP TRACKING

I’ve been wearing an OURA RING for just over a year now and whilst admittedly it took me a while to get on board with it, I’ve now got an obsession with tracking my sleep each night. It’s given me great insights into what helps and hinders my sleep. It’s made me conscious of not spending time on my phone in the lead up to sleep, eating dinner earlier (who knew that could impact your sleep?) and how when I'm in my cycle I might need a little extra ZZZ’s.

4. WASH THE DAY AWAY

My sister, Poppy, has always insisted on a warm shower before bed not only for hygiene reasons but also to help switch her mind off after a long day. And it’s now one of my favourite parts of my day! A warm shower and lathering myself in the LUI BODY MOISTURISER really helps me unwind and tell my body and mind that it’s time for bed.

5. NATURAL SLEEP REMEDIES

When I started prioritising my sleep I did a lot of reading around the benefits of taking the right sleep supplements. I take a few supplements from ARRAE so thought I’d try their Sleep capsules. WOW! They're made with GABA (to calm nerve activity and reduce anxiety), chamomile (to promote a restful sleep), Valerian Root (which helps to boost GABA levels), Holy Basil (which helps to regulating cortisol levels) and Hops (which naturally soothes the mind and relieves tension). It’s all natural, I don’t wake up drowsy and there's no risk of dependency. There’s teas on the market too with similar ingredients, but I’ve never slept better.
